Absa and Thunes Launch Absa Global Pay to Transform Cross-Border Remittances Across Africa
One of Africa’s largest financial services providers has collaborated with Thunes, global payment infrastructure platform to launch Absa Global Pay, an innovation to simplify international money transfers. This next-generation remittance solution is designed to offer real-time, low-cost, and mobile-first cross-border payments for individuals and small businesses across the continent.
With this partnership, users can now send money instantly to 18 countries including Kenya, Zimbabwe, India, Malawi, Pakistan, and the UK. The platform offers multiple delivery options where funds can be received through bank accounts, mobile wallets or cash pick-up. This way customers can benefit from clear fee structures and real-time notifications for full transaction visibility.
According to Nick Nkosi, Managing Executive for Transactional and Deposits at Absa Personal and Private Banking, noted that;
“The partnership aims to offer a more economical and transparent method of international money transfers”.
The arrangement, confirmed by executives from the two companies, is intended to address persistent problems with overseas remittances, especially high transaction costs and lengthy payment times.
Additionally, the platform assures transparent pricing and competitive foreign exchange rates, guaranteeing that a greater percentage of each transfer reaches the beneficiary. This is especially important in Africa, where remittance inflows are necessary for funding household bills, healthcare, and education in many nations. This experience can be accessible through the Absa Banking App and Online Banking, making remittances seamless and secure.
