Africa's E-Mobility Firm Spiro Launches in Tanzania

African e-mobility firm Spiro has launched operations in Tanzania, as part of its broader growth strategy.
The company has deployed over ten battery swapping stations in the country and plans to expand this into a nationwide network. To further support the e-mobility sector, the company will introduce bank-financed assets, flexible ownership models, and structured training programs for youth and small-scale entrepreneurs.
“Spiro offers the most affordable bike and battery swapping network in Africa, with costs lower than gas-powered bikes. Our commitment is to provide accessible, eco-friendly transportation that transforms urban mobility and supports economic growth across the continent, ” said Kaushik Burman, Chief Executive Officer, Spiro.
The e-mobility provider also wants to boost local economies in Tanzania by teaming up with local assembly facilities.
“To support local economies, Spiro plans to establish or partner with local assembly facilities in Tanzania. This initiative will drive job creation, reduce reliance on imports, and lower vehicle costs, making sustainable transport more accessible,” said Kshitij Sharma Spiro, MD Kenya and Tanzania.
It hopes to work with Tanzanian government bodies, energy regulators such as EWURA and TANESCO, ride-hailing services, and fintech partners to build infrastructure, enable digital payments, and promote the use of clean mobility solutions.
Spiro is the largest electric mobility company in Africa, which operates the largest battery swapping infrastructure in 8 countries in Africa. It has achieved over half a billion kms of CO2-free travel, crossed 20 million battery swaps, and operated over 600 battery swapping stations with more than 30,000 motor bikes in circulation.
