Cameroon’s Nkwel App Bridges Local Businesses and Consumers
The name “Nkwel,” which means “the link” or “the rope” in African languages, reflects its mission of connecting communities through digital platforms. By focusing on simplicity and affordability, Nkwel is tailored to the realities of urban and semi-urban communities in Cameroon.

Nkwel, a new digital platform has launched in Cameroon, with the goal of transforming the neighborhood commerce through connecting consumers with local businesses, service providers, and producers through a mobile application.

The launching was announced in Yaounde, with the presence of entrepreneurs, local merchants, and technology stakeholders to witness the demonstration of the tool designed to modernize local trade and improve access to nearby services. Users of this platform can easily access local businesses such as marketplaces, bakeries, restaurants, caterers, and other service providers.

According to the founder of Nkwel, Davis Ndjana Mengue, stated that;

By providing a digital marketplace that integrates a variety of services within a single platform, Nkwel aims to close the gap between consumers and local businesses. “We want to bring people closer to their favourite neighbourhood shops while saving them time and simplifying their experience,” Mengue explained.

The platform also provides consumers with the ability to browse available goods and services, place orders, and monitor deliveries. It is targeted at increasing economic exchanges within communities and enhancing local products through combining services and local businesses with a single interface.

The developers of Nkwel believe that the platform may be very helpful for both small and medium-sized businesses, which usually don't have access to advanced digital platforms.
