Delta40 Raises $20 Million to Invest in and Co-Found African Startups
Delta40 secures funding.

The African venture capital firm Delta40 has concluded a $20million investment fund to support and co-found early-stage companies throughout Africa. This is Africa’s first institutional venture studio and fund capital raise which would connect venture buildings and early-stage investment together with a combination of grants, debt, and equity.

Delta40, which was founded by Lyndsay Holley Handler, is structured to have a hybrid business strategy consisting of seed money with internal operational support. This structure is more typical in Western markets but still unique in Africa. The company intends to enhance its role as a co-founder and investor by using the additional funds to create more businesses internally and diversify its investment portfolio.

The funding is set to bring together 54 investors from 13 countries participating in the investment round, including foundations, family offices, international organizations, development finance institutions (DFIs), and 25 company founders. The goal is aimed at "founders backing founders" ecosystem to give new companies access to operational expertise, mentorship, and financial resources.

Commercial financing accounts for more than half of the $20 million raised, indicating that private investors have a high level of confidence in Africa's startup culture.

In addition to that, the funding will also emphasize AI-driven businesses, climate-tech, and digital infrastructure solutions with Delta40 plans to focus on startups in Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana.

Despite uncertainty in the global economy, investors are still looking for high-growth opportunities, and the announcement comes as Africa's startup sector is growing at speed. Delta40's new fund shows ongoing confidence in the continent's entrepreneurial talent and its ability to generate globally competitive businesses with new funding and an approach that collaborates.
