Djibouti Introduces Mobile ID Platform to Advance Innovation and Strengthen Cybersecurity
Djibouti has taken a big step in modernizing public administration and strengthening cybersecurity with the formal launch of its Mobile ID digital identity platform. Under President Ismail Omar Guelleh's support, the idea of this innovation was presented during the National Digital Identity Forum at the People's Palace, attended by international partners, government representatives, and leaders of the corporate sector.
The Mobile ID system is set to provide citizens with electronic authentication and secure digital identification via their mobile phones or unique digital identities. This program, according to the Ministry of Interior, is designed to improve the accuracy of identity verification, secure government and financial transactions, and transition from physical to digital biometrics.
His Excellency President, Republic of Djibouti, highlighted the advantages of digital identity stating that it allows faster and more transparent services across civil status, taxation, banking, and electronic contract signing. He added that, “On the economic level too, digital identity is a tremendous accelerator of activity. It facilitates transactions, secures exchanges and promotes the development of electronic commerce.”
The platform would ensure increased access to public and private services, improve digital transactions, and support Djibouti's broader economic development, other officials who attended the meeting emphasized. With the National Cybersecurity Authority and the Agency for State Information Systems playing important roles in its implementation, the program is also viewed as a calculated step to improve national cybersecurity.
Djibouti's Mobile ID positions the nation as a regional leader in secure digital identity solutions and aligns with worldwide trends in digital governance. The platform is expected to promote innovation, expand financial inclusion, and improve service delivery by integrating trust into digital interactions.
