Egyptian e-Sport Startup GBarena closes Pre-Series A Funding

Cairo-based e-Sports and tournaments startup, GBarena, has announced it raised a six-figure Pre-Series A investment round. HIM Angles VC network, Ahmed Aboudoma, and Kushal Shah all participated in the round.

Founded in 2015 by Samer Wagdy, Mustafa Zaza, and Bishoy Mesdary, GBarena helps gamers find local and global challenges, enabling them to compete for titles and rewards.

GBarena leverages its complex data analytics to provide users an opportunity to generate revenue by enabling them to reach their filtered target groups based on user behavior and demographics.

GBarena has been able to combine a strong network of different eSports communities with a highly analytical tool that gives authentic value to its users.

Users are allowed to create, publish and manage the tournaments through their web-based platform. The users once logged in can choose their favorite game titles to receive suggestions for both on-ground and online tournaments nearby.

Organizers of tournaments can also add moderators who can assist in tournament management and stay in touch with participants using different communication channels.

GBarena also confirmed it has appointed Eng. Ahmed Aboudoma as its new Executive Chairman as the startup plans to apply his 27 years of experience in the MICT industry in setting the key functions and drive the startup.

According to GBarena’s CEO, Samer Wagdy, the startup will use the fund to develop new products and services like a digital store with a customized GBarena coin that will enable gamers to purchase in-game products directly from the platform.
