Google Launches Call for Applications for Startup Accelerator Africa Cohort 10
Google has Cohort 10 of the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa in the digital sector on the continent in Lagos, Nigeria. 12-week hybrid program "AI First" accelerator designed for Series Companies that are either based in Africa or are employing AI and machine learning to create solutions, particularly for Africa.
Selected firms have access to Google's technological resources, AI expertise, and seasoned professional mentorship. Alongside advice on conquering technical issues, increasing business capacity, and safeguarding intellectual property.
In addition, participants will gain access to networking opportunities with peers and industry professionals. Ten to fifteen startups are usually selected in each cohort; they are chosen based on their ability to promote innovation and address urgent regional issues.
Speaking on the new cohort, Head of Startup Ecosystem Africa at Google, Folarin Aiyegbusi, said the continent's tech landscape is undergoing a significant shift toward more advanced innovation. Google emphasized that the program is an indication of supporting AI-driven scientific and technological innovations throughout Africa and giving businesses the resources they need to compete on a global scale.
The announcement was met with excitement by industry observers, who noted that over $4 billion in venture capital was invested in Africa's startup ecosystem in 2025, with fintech, healthtech, and agritech driving the majority of this investment. Google hopes to increase Africa's contribution to the upcoming wave of technological innovation by focusing on AI.
Cohort 10 is expected to start later in the year, and applications are accepted through March 18, 2026. Startups interested in applying can do so through Google's official accelerator platform.
