Gurbhej Dhillon, Goldman Sachs’ Former MD, Joins Flutterwave as New CTO
Gurbhej Dhillon, the former Managing Director of Goldman Sachs, has been appointed Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Flutterwave, a leading fintech company, and Africa’s most valuable startup.
The fintech company says that the new CTO will be responsible for further developing Flutterwave’s innovative technology platform, which currently supports integrations with key technology partners like VISA, Mastercard, Discover Card Networks, and customers like Uber, Flywire, Booking.com, etc. In addition, he will focus on improving the architecture and infrastructure and providing leadership, enabling other engineering and product leaders to create the best solutions that support customer business growth.
This new appointment comes barely weeks after the company announced the appointment of Oneal Bhambani as its new Chief Financial Officer from American Express and Kabbage, where he managed large-scale fintech businesses and helped lead the sale of Kabbage and its integration into the American Express Global Commercial Services segment.
The payment company has been making some power moves since it completed its Series D funding round, valuing the company at over $3 billion. In February 2022, it rolled out a series of new products and services, including Fintech-as-a-Service, Capital, Grow and Card issuing, that would take the technology beyond payments. The fintech also improved existing products, such as a new powerful dashboard, Barter v4, and an AI-powered compliance process.
Gurbhej is joining Flutterwave from Marcus by Goldman Sachs, where he was the CTO and Head of Lending Engineering. He has extensive experience in enterprise application architecture across financial services and consumer businesses. At Marcus, he was responsible for launching platforms to significantly grow businesses while improving customer experience and established strategic partnerships with several Fortune 500 companies.
Before that, Gurbhej was the CTO for Goldman Sachs’ Investment Banking Capital Markets team, responsible for designing, architecture, and building out strategic platforms that enabled clients to execute equity and debt product offerings.
