Huawei-Algeria and Algeria Venture Launch “Huawei Spark” To Support Startups In Algeria
Huawei-Algeria, a leading Chinese telecommunications company, and Algeria Venture, a public start-up accelerator, have announced the launch of an international program, “Huawei Spark” in Algiers on Monday, September 12, 2022. The program aims to promote and develop start-ups in the North African country.
Yacine El-Mahdi Oualid, Minister of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups, and Microenterprises, and Hocine Cherhabil, Minister of Digitization and Statistics, both attended the ceremony.
The Chinese telco stated that “the international ‘Huawei Spark’ Startup Support Program provides free cloud resources, technical training, and expert support to eligible startups while leveraging business opportunities in the Huawei Cloud ecosystem,” as well as allowing Algerian start-ups “to go to international markets with support at trade fairs and world fairs.”
El-Mahdi Oualid, in his speech, noted that “The work of the various players in the ICT sector is essentially aimed at building a complete ecosystem while hoping that Algeria will become a continental hub in this area. I would like to thank Huawei for the work done in the direction of startups in Algeria because Huawei believes that the development of startups will go through the aid of large companies.”
In the same vein, Mr. Cherhabil encouraged Huawei for its various initiatives to support startups to boost the country’s digital economy.
What the Stakeholders are saying
The Chairman and CEO of Huawei Algeria, Eason Yi said “We are delighted to have the opportunity to witness the entry of Huawei and the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups, and Micro-enterprises through the second phase of cooperation, which aims to help Algerian start-ups to set up a better technical and commercial ecosystem as well as their promotion at the local and international level.”
“We appreciate the trust of the Algerian government, all our valued customers and partners over the past 20 years, which allows Huawei to have the chance to contribute to the development of ICT and digitalization in Algeria,” he concluded.
“I recall the launch of several Open Innovation projects, for which Algeria Venture played a role in supporting startups and representing Algeria in four international events,” said Sid Ali Zerrouki, Managing Director of Algeria Venture. Such a rapid pace would not be possible without the assistance of a strategic partner who goes to great lengths to promote youth and entrepreneurship through the use of technology, one of which, Huawei, is present here. Without a doubt, Huawei is one of Algeria Venture’s strategic partners, because it was the first partner to believe in our program and trust Algerian youth and their ability to perform miracles and positively impact the national economy.”
“Today, we are delighted to be back with Huawei as an official partner of the Spark program, which is a support program for our startups in Algeria and abroad, via cloud training resources and capitalizing on business opportunities enabled by Huawei’s cloud ecosystem,” he added.
Also, Huawei Algeria honored the young talents who participated in the 8th edition of the “Seeds for the Future 2022” program, which had a record participation of 26 students from various establishments and institutes of Higher Education.
