African Entrepreneurs have been granted a sum of $1.5 million grant by Chinese entrepreneurs and Alibaba founder Jack Ma through the 2026 edition of Africa’s Business Heroes (ABH). The initiative is designed to select and support founders building scalable solutions to Africa’s most pressing challenges. 

The program executives stated that the project has the goal to expand Africa’s business environment in addition to supplying funding. According to Zahra Boateng-Baitie, Managing Director for Africa at Alibaba Philanthropy, she stated that African entrepreneurs have been recognized to influence the future of the continent by creating creative solutions to global problems. 

She further mentioned that in addition to financial support, the program offers coaching and strategic advice to assist entrepreneurs create sustainable businesses that may promote equitable economic growth.

This funding will present Top 100 entrepreneurs for the 2026 cycle to expand visibility and access to resources, unlike previous editions that focused on 10 finalists. The grant targets startups in climate-smart agriculture, digital finance, healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, and emerging technologies. 

By presenting the Top 100 entrepreneurs for the 2026 cycle, the program will also broaden its recognition pool and provide more founders with access to global networks, industry leaders, and investors. Entrepreneurs from both Anglophone and Francophone Africa are encouraged to participate. 

This reveals the support of Jack Ma’s Foundation commitment towards supporting African entrepreneurs and enhancing innovation-driven economic development across the continent. Initiatives like ABH are anticipated to become more important in supporting the next generation of African business leaders as startup ecosystems expand throughout nations like South Africa, Kenya, and Nigeria.

The Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Group's flagship nonprofit campaign, Africa's Business Heroes (ABH), was created to honor and assist African business owners. The program, which was started in 2019, seeks to find, support, and to promote business owners that are having a positive social and economic effect throughout the African continent.

Out of thousands of prospective employees, the competition chooses ten exceptional African entrepreneurs each year. In addition to a $1.5 million funding pool, guidance, training, and access to global investors and business networks, these finalists compete in an online grand finale.
