Qualcomm Unveils “Make in Africa” Initiative for African Startups
Qualcomm opens applications for its Make in Africa Startup Mentorship Program

In January 2026, Qualcomm announced the extension of its Make in Africa Startup Mentorship Program, its first program created to support Africa's expanding technology ecosystem.

This program is structured to initiate ten early-stage companies from around the continent, which will be chosen by the program to take part in a nurturing and mentorship cycle. These companies will also have access to Qualcomm's subject matter experts, engineering advice, and business coaching. Most importantly, the program is equity-free, ensuring that entrepreneurs maintain complete ownership of their businesses.

The entire program focuses on startups developing advanced computer systems, 5G, Extended Reality (XR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT). In addition, there will be expert-led seminars, technical training, and advice on intellectual property protection, all essential for developing globally competitive solutions for selected participants.

Qualcomm emphasized that the program is part of its larger Africa Innovation Platform, designed to accelerate the continent's digital development.

The program is scheduled as follows:

  • Application Deadline: February 15, 2026
  • Program Duration: Mid-2026 to December 2026
  • Finale Event: December 2026

By offering technical depth and international exposure, Qualcomm's mentorship program is expected to support the growth of Africa's startup ecosystem. The program offers African business owners a unique chance to gain access to top-notch knowledge without compromising ownership. The 2026 cohort is accepting applications through February 15, 2026, and the winners will be revealed later that year.
