South African Online Payments Group, PayGate, integrates Samsung Pay
PayGate, a subsidiary of the DPO Group in South Africa, has announced that it is allowing Samsung Pay as an extra payment method for its merchants.
Samsung Pay, a mobile payment system, was formally introduced in South Africa in 2018. It enables customers to make payments with just their smartphone at any terminal that accepts bank card swipes or contactless payments.
For online payments and checkout, Samsung Pay is currently integrated with a number of big banks, including Absa, Capitec Bank, Discovery Bank, FNB, Investec, Nedbank, RMB Private Bank, and Standard Bank.
Samsung Pay eliminates the need for consumers to look through their wallets for credit cards. According to Eran Feinstein, CEO of DPO Group, who commented on the breakthrough, users no longer need to register accounts or continually fill in shipping and payment information to make quicker and more comfortable purchases in apps or online.
“Samsung Pay removes the need to search through a wallet or purse for payment cards, which contributes to a seamless payment journey,” says Feinstein.
“On top of this, every transaction is authenticated and authorised by the customer’s fingerprint or PIN on their Samsung device – adding an extra layer of security to online payments. This means customers are more likely to complete the check-out process.”
According to PayGate, Samsung Pay has put safeguards in place to make sure that actual card information is never retained on a customer’s device or on Samsung servers.
Instead, a token is used in place of the card number each time a payment is made, thus producing a virtual copy of the card with an entirely separate set of numbers. This makes sure that customer information is protected and secured.
According to Justin Hume, VP: Mobile at Samsung, customers, business owners, and their suppliers all gain from this as the partnership makes online buying more convenient.
“We are very excited about bringing Samsung Pay to PayGate merchants. This benefits everyone involved – from business owners and their suppliers, to customers. The rapid growth and adoption by both retailers and customers is fueled by innovation that puts their needs first – foremost security and convenience,” said Hume.
Feinstein explains that businesses can make Samsung Pay available to their online customers via their PayGate account. Customers may use Samsung Pay on their Samsung Galaxy smartphone to make quicker and more comfortable purchases in apps or online – without having to register accounts or continually fill in shipping and billing information.
