Tanzanian healthtech startup Medikea has raised $1.2 million in pre-seed funding to expand its physical healthcare operations.
The funding round was led by Baobab Network, Catalyst Fund and develoPPP Ventures, with participation from Madica, which invested $200,000, as well as Impacc, Hustle Fund, O’Shaughnessy Ventures, Madiro, the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation and an angel investor.
The new facilities bring Medikea’s clinic network to four. The company operates an app-based healthcare service alongside its own clinics, pharmacies and diagnostic laboratories.
Medikea plans to use the capital for business expansion, product development and additional specialist services, and to increase its network to 10 clinics across Tanzania by the end of 2027 and serve more than 100,000 patients over the next 12 months.
For Black founders, Medikea’s raise provides a funding opportunity for companies combining digital health services with physical care delivery, where expansion depends on building both technology and clinical infrastructure.
