Telkom introduces online education solution for learners.

Telkom has introduced an online education solution for learners through the Lightbulb Education platform.

Lightbulb Education helps learners to achieve their goals by creating a path to achieve this goal through a personalized learning journey.

CEO and founder of Lightbulb Education,  Allan Mushabe said that technology is transforming the way we learn exponentially, and this partnership with Telkom ushers a new innovative approach to digital education and training.

Currently, learners, teachers, and parents are using a combination of platforms and material to continue learning at home and to catch-up on the curriculum. Lightbulb Education integrates these learning experiences onto one platform. The platform focuses on mathematics and the sciences for Grade 10 to Grade 12 learners while the platform will add Grades 7 – 9 on August 1, 2020.

Executive for Content at Telkom, Wanda Mkhize said,  “True to our brand promise of leaving no man behind, the service is offered for free to Telkom customers and we have also zero-rated data for all Telkom customers which mean that all customers can access it for free both on mobile and fixed-line products.”

According to Telkom, most classrooms in South Africa have over 50 learners with only one dedicated teacher who cannot give enough attention to each child. In most cases, some children are left behind due to this situation.

With this solution, learners will be able to cover specific topics by grade, test themselves, and participate in group tutoring sessions. The platform allows parents to track their children’s progress through personalized reports and notifications.

Furthermore, teachers can use the platform to prepare lessons, create tests and assessments while monitoring class progress on learning material.

Apart from partnering with Lightbulb, Telkom has invested in Lightbulb Education through its FutureMakers investment fund that supports innovative small technology businesses.
