San Francisco-based AI Semiconductor startup Volantis has raised $88 million to develop a photonic memory layer designed to address memory and data-movement problems in next-generation AI systems.
The funding will support the company’s development of photonic technology that uses light to move and process data, aiming the improve the efficiency of AI infrastructure.
Volantis is targeting the challenge of moving large volumes of data between processors and memory without creating performance constraints.
The raise comes as investment in AI infrastructure expands beyond chips and computing power to technologies that improve the systems supporting complex AI workloads.
For founders and engineers building in deeptech, photonics and AI infrastructure, Volantis’ funding shows investor interest in technologies tackling core hardware challenges behind the next generation of AI.
The capital will help Volantis advance its technology and build the infrastructure needed to bring its photonic memory approach closer to commercial deployment.
