M-PESA Soon To launch "M-PESA Go", Feature For Minors

Recently, one of  Kenya’s leading mobile banking services, M-PESA, announced that there are plans in motion to launch its platform for juniors and minors. Although this development has not been launched yet, the company reveals that the delay occurs because of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK),  as the financial house is yet give the telco permission to launch.

This initiative is one of the results of M-PESA feature exploration. Through this soon-to-launch feature, the telco can expand its market offering, while gaining more users for its mobile money service.

Launched in 2007, M-PESA has recorded a substantial level of growth, whilst being of the most relatable mobile money services in East Africa, Kenya. The platform has been supplemented by other services related to payments. In the meantime, it has revealed that it wants to expand its product services beyond payment. With such intentions, reports have it that M-PESA users will experience additional features and services integrated into its platform.

Although several mobile applications have been launched in association with the telco, such as the M-PESA Business app, mySafaricom, and the M-PESA app itself, M-PESA is one of the most recognized in the country as it has an all-in-one feature. There have been more than 8 million times. The mobile app also claimed to have a strong security feature which includes biometric authentication for payments, users can also view their account statements.

Over time the telco communicates with users via notifications and updates on the mobile app, the recent update that was released, gave a few hints on the M-PESA minors, dubbing it M-Pesa GO.

“M-PESA GO, IS A SERVICE FOR  JUNIORS ON M-PESA BETWEEN THE AGES OF 11 AND 18, ALLOWING THEM TO BUY GOODS AND SERVICES, PAY FOR BILLS AND BUY AIRTIME AND DATA ON M-PESA WITH SUPERVISION FROM THEIR PARENTS OR GUARDIANS.”
