Mastercard and Moovn Technologies have signed a five-year agreement to expand digital payment services across East Africa, targeting consumers, merchants, and small businesses through a digital wallet and payment infrastructure.
Announced on October 19, 2026, the partnership will connect MoovnPay’s wallet ecosystem to Mastercard’s global payments network, enabling virtual and physical prepaid cards, online payments, peer-to-peer transfers and eligible cross-border remittances.
The services will be integrated into Moovn’s mobility, logistics, e-commerce and merchant platforms. Its Pay Local service will also enable participating merchants in Kenya and Tanzania to accept payments directly from MoovnPay users.
The agreement comes as Mastercard-commissioned research projects “Africa’s digital payments economy” will reach $1.5 trillion by 2030, driven by digital commerce, cross-border transactions and financial technology.
For Black and Brown founders building payment, commerce, and logistics businesses in the region, the partnership adds payment capabilities to platforms serving drivers, merchants, and small enterprises.
