The Foschini Group Launches TFG Connect
TFG Connect, a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) has been launched by The Foschini Group (TFG), to compete with other MVNOs like Mr Price Mobile, Afrihost Air Mobile, and PnP Mobile. Utilizing the MTN network, TFG Connect will provide prepaid and “Pay Monthly” solutions.
Users can purchase additional airtime in-person, online or via USSD. The customer’s TFG Money account will be charged for any USSD recharges that are performed.
New customers who purchase SIMs from TFG retailers like Foschini, Markham, Exact, and Jet receive 200MB each month for six months, a once-iff 250MB WhatsApp package, and R29 worth of airtime. Customers’ TFG Money accounts are instantly connected to TFG Connect SIMs, enabling customers to top up in-store and over the phone using their account credit.
The prepaid data plans from TFG Connect were compared to those from Mr Price Mobile, Afrihost Air Mobile, Shoprite K’nect, and Axxess by MyBroadband. For two data allocations, TFG Connect offered the best value at R29 and R49 for its 200MB and 350MB packages, respectively. Among those compared, its 3GB data bundle for R299 was the most expensive.
The 200MB, 350MB, and 3GB data allotment are only matched by one other MVNO, hence it should be noted that these bundle sizes are unusual.
The smallest data bundle offered by TFG Connect is 100MB for R20, and it has a 30-day validity period. Afrihost Air Mobile offers a 100MB data bundle with a 60-day validity period for R10, which is less expensive than Mr Price Mobile’s 100MB data bundle, which costs R30.
The data bundles offered by Afrihost Air Mobile were consistently the most affordable. However, packages less than 100MB are not available. In terms of smaller data bundles, Shoprite’s K’nect data packages are less expensive, whereas Afrihost, in spite of its larger bundles, provides greater value than Mr. Price.
Shoprite costs R4 and R7.50, respectively, for its 30MB and 50MB packs. Similar to Afrihost Air Mobile, Shoprite’s K’nect offers data bundles with a 60-day expiration date.
TFG Connect offers data bundles of 500MB, 1GB, and 2GB for R59, R79, and R139, respectively.
