Nigerian defense-tech startup Terra Industries has closed a $52 million seed round to scale its autonomous security systems and manufacturing operations across Africa and other emerging markets.
Founded by Nigerian entrepreneurs Nathan Nwachuku and Maxwell Maduka, Terra develops drones and autonomous systems designed to protect critical infrastructure, including power plants and mines. The company says its technology is already deployed across several African countries.
The funding includes backing from investors such as 8VC, Lux Capital, Silent Ventures, Nova Global, Belief Capital and SV Angel.
The company plans to use the capital to expand manufacturing, increase deployments and grow its international operations.
Critical infrastructure across the Global South is best protected by systems designed for these environments and built in the regions they protect. This funding lets us scale that work and deepen our manufacturing base. It also puts us in the rooms where global defense decisions are made.”
-- Nathan Nwachuku, co-founder and CEO of Terra Industries.
Terra’s ability to attract global capital for hardware, robotics, artificial intelligence and industrial technology could provide a useful signal for other founders, including African founders pursuing capital-intensive businesses.
Its manufacturing expansion could further create opportunities across the technology supply chain, including drone components, batteries, sensors, software, engineering, and logistics.
