Uber has officially expanded its Robotaxi offering in Dubai, putting Baidu's fully driverless Apollo Go vehicles on its platform as the emirate accelerates its push to make autonomous transport part of everyday urban mobility.
The launch is the first deployment of Uber and Baidu's multi-year autonomous mobility partnership and adds another technology provider to Dubai's growing robotaxi ecosystem.
Uber already works with autonomous-driving company WeRide, which began fully driverless commercial operations in Dubai earlier this year.
The company is positioning its platform as the layer connecting riders with multiple autonomous vehicle operators and not just relying on a single robotaxi technology provider.
Dubai is emerging as an important test market as the expansion signals how autonomous mobility is moving from pilot projects into commercially available transport in the Middle East. For riders, an Uber booked in parts of Dubai can now arrive without a driver behind the wheel.
